Carolyn,
You share such a fabulous benefit of keeping a journal: using the pages to clarify when something isn't right. As a result, you experience a higher quality of life as your writing validates your feelings, emotions, and point of view.

I also love the techniques you share: Q&A, Fear Splat (I think that one is my favorite), and Dialogue. There is sure to be one that suits other fellow journal writers!

I have chosen your post, Journaling to Clarity, for the #JournalChat Pick of the Day, on 4/8/11 for all things journaling on Twitter. I will post a link on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and my blog, Refresh with Dawn Herring.

You're welcome to follow my @JournalChat account on Twitter for all things journaling. :)

Thanks again for sharing a personal application for using our journals to bring clarification.

Be refreshed,
Dawn Herring

Yes, I love what Mary Oliver says. Definitely, paying attention is key to so many things, particularly if you're a writer. One of my fave quotes comes from Diane Sawyer, who said, "There's no substitute for paying attention." By not paying attention, you miss so much!

[...] In fact, we all need this type of creative respite on a regular basis. And by taking the time to look inward and be fully in the present moment, our writing brightens. On my blog, I talk about when I found myself in need of this kind of tune-up — http://www.backyardpearls.com/blog/2010/time-for-a-sea-change/. [...]

I like that phrase "speaking it into existence." With time and so many other things, it's so true!
